Astrid is a pharmacist practitioner working for the OPAT service and Infectious Disease Department at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. Having gained her qualification as pharmacist in Germany, Astrid has had a particular interest in the role of clinical pharmacy prompting a move to the UK. Following her basic grade training, Astrid gained significant experience working in both adult and paediatric critical care where she also gained her Independent Prescriber qualification. In 2016 Astrid took on the role as lead pharmacist for Antimicrobial Stewardship at Worcester but, feeling more at home with the direct clinical care of patients, was keen to focus on OPAT with the aim to develop the pharmacist and practitioner role within the service and to improve the local service overall. Following a successful funding application for an OPAT practitioner within the service Astrid has been working in this role since 2021.
