Debbie Johnston is a registered nurse and non-medical prescriber with almost 20 years of experience in acute medicine and infectious diseases. After earning her nursing degree at the University of Manchester, she began her career in acute medicine. Following an eight-month volunteering placement in Uganda, Debbie joined the National Aspergillosis Centre as a specialist nurse caring for patients with Aspergillosis and Tuberculosis (TB). In 2012, she completed a Master’s degree in Humanitarianism and Conflict Response with distinction.
In 2014, Debbie returned to her hometown of Birmingham to work at the TB service, and the following year, she was deployed to Sierra Leone with UK-Med to work in an Ebola Treatment centre during the epidemic.
For the past seven years, Debbie has been part of the University Hospitals Birmingham OPAT team. She is passionate about providing high-quality patient care and is committed to continuously advancing and improving the service.
