Dr Sara Hedderwick gained her medical degree from Cambridge University and St Bartholomews Hospital in London. She continued her postgraduate training at Guys Hospital, London and The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor where she completed a Fellowship in Infectious Diseases. She took up post as a consultant in Infectious Disease in The Royal Victoria Hospital in 2001, but moved to the Southern Trust in 2018 as a consultant microbiologist.
Her interests include (amongst many!) OPAT and she is pleased to have been instrumental in its development and spread throughout Northern Ireland. Latterly, she is particularly interested in antimicrobial stewardship within OPAT, and the gatekeeping and patient safety role that infection specialties can bring to the area.
